Installation

  • If sendmail was installed, stop it first. 
$ /etc/init.d/sendmail stop
  • Install Postfix. 
$ apt-get install postfix
  • Select Internet Site
  • Enter the domain for the mail server.

If receiving email should be done by Google Apps instead of Postfix, edit /etc/postfix/main.cf file. 

mydestination = localhost.localdomain, localhost
fallback_transport = relay

$ service postfix restart
  • Test 
$ sendmail email@address 
FROM: sender@address
SUBJECT: Some subject.
email body.
blah blah.
